Issue № 11SaaS Design

SMB Operations Platform

One command center for teams drowning in 4–5 disjointed apps — tasks, chat, storage, orders, HR, and dashboards unified, mobile-first.

At a glance: Ethereal designed one app that replaces the four or five separate tools small businesses juggle every day — tasks, chat, files, orders, inventory, and HR all in one place, built for phones first so field workers stay in the loop. In testing, a new quick-actions bar cut wrong taps to under 20%.

The Problem

SMBs are slowed not by a lack of tools but by too many disjointed ones — employees juggle 4–5 apps daily and lose hours to context switching. Data is scattered, work duplicated, managers lack visibility, and field workers are cut off from real-time updates.

Tool sprawl

Employees juggle four to five disjointed apps a day and lose hours to context-switching.

No visibility

Data is scattered and work duplicated, so managers can't see what's actually happening.

Field blind spots

Mobile and field workers are cut off from the real-time updates the office takes for granted.

The Solution

We designed a single SaaS command center: task management, integrated communication (chat, file share, secure audio/video), secure cloud storage, cross-company permission-based workspaces, order and resource management, inventory, automated HR workflows, performance and recognition, ticketing, and smart dashboards — mobile-first throughout.

Design method
01Phase

Research

User interviews and workflow mapping surface where the day actually leaks time.

02Phase

IA & Wireframes

A unified information architecture replaces five mental models with one.

03Phase

Design System

A mobile-first component system keeps every module consistent.

04Core

Usability Testing

Maze testing validates each flow before it ships — the Quick Actions bar is a direct result.

One command center

Tasks, chat, storage, orders, inventory, HR, and dashboards live in a single mobile-first product.

Unified in one platform
Task Management

Work is planned, assigned, and tracked in one place instead of five.

Integrated Comms

Chat, file share, and secure audio/video replace the side channels.

Secure Storage

Permission-based workspaces keep the right people on the right data.

Orders & Inventory

Resource, order, and inventory management sit beside the work they drive.

HR Workflows

Automated HR, performance, and recognition close the loop on people ops.

Smart Dashboards

Managers finally get real-time visibility across the whole operation.

03

The Outcome

Validated through Maze usability testing: a "Quick Actions" bar cut the miss-click rate to under 20% while improving feature discoverability. A chaotic tool mix replaced by one optimized platform.
